I am writing this in June from Jerusalem. I must tell you that thisis an amazing place that every person, if they can, should visit at least once in their lifetime. The Bible simply comes alive as you see the places that are mentioned within it and walk the streets where Jesus walked. It isan indescribable feeling to be on the Sea of Galilee where Christ walked on the water and be immersed in thes urrounding area where most of His ministry took place.
Christ ministered to people no matter who they were, no matter where they were, and relentlessly delivered the Word whenever and wherever He could. Jesus "spread the word"!
While not comparing ourselves as a ministry to Christ's ministry, our mission is to carry on what Christhas commanded. We are to take the Word of the Lord to the untold wherever they are, however we can. Our commission is encapsulated by the three words of our Bible distribution ministry name, Spread the Word.
LeSEA Broadcasting is effectively doing this through radio, television, the Internet, and the printed Word. There are many people who believe that electronic media is best; yet, the demand for the printed Word is overwhelming and every day we receive requests for Bibles from every imaginable corner of the world.
From Uganda: "I am proud to inform you that I have received the Bible I ordered from you. In my village it is the first Bible and very proud to start a Bible teaching class which will lead to establishing achurch that will preach the Word to needy people. Thank you!"
Imagine! Because of a faithful donor's $5.00 gift, we were able to send a free Bible which has become"the village Bible!" Can you hear the resounding applause of the legions of Heavenly angels?
We have designated July as Spread the Word month. This month we are asking people to help ussend more Bibles to more places and more people than ever before. It's a huge challenge, but I know it is one that we can achieve. We must succeed. We have marching orders from our Supreme Commander: "Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation" (Mark 16:15).
Another letter recently came from someone who was ready to give up spiritually. He had requested a Bible, but with postage and delays it had not come. Then one day he prayed that "if there is a God, show me proof!" That very day their Spread the Word Bible arrived! They rejoiced and knew that God had provided just in time what they needed to resume their faith. All because another faithful donor provided the $5.00 we needed to send it free of cost to this hurting and lost soul.
When someone requests a Bible, we take it seriously. We know they are not just requesting a book; they want the Word of God. In most cases, it would take a huge portion of their income to afford to purchase a Bible where they live...possibly as much as a month's income, which is almost an impossibility, This is especially true in places like India or Africa, where it's estimated that it takes 70% of a poor families income justto provide the bare necessities of food for the family.
Hear this testimony from Malawi: "I just received the beautiful Bible which you sent me. I have received it today...as I am writing to youit's in my hand. I lost my Bible long ago and I have been struggling to find one even to buy, but God has answered my prayer. God bless you abundantly!!!"
Every day we struggle to clear the backlog of Bible orders we have already received. We have to make difficult decisions when someone requests many Bibles for a church, school, or village. Usually we can only send a few and not all that are requested. But we have to respond.
Our initial goal was to distribute 100,000 Bibles. We quickly passed that only to discover an even greater demand for Bibles than we could have imagined. As of today, we have sent over 500,000 Bibles to 190 countries! But there is need for 500,000 more, and even more than that to reach the untold billions yet untold with the life saving Gospel of Jesus Christ!
We need to get Bibles to every one who asks, in prisons, rescue missions, and homeless shelters. Right now we have thousands of requests and we just can't fill them all, but we can do our part—with your faithful response right now! While one Bible in Uganda may cost one month's salary of a family, that one Bible costs a lunch sandwich for most of us. Some coffees cost more in America than a full King James Bible costs to mail to someone overseas. We are living in such a blessed nation, with so many resources in our hands and we can meet the needs of people around the world for so little!
Help us, help others. Pray for God to give us wisdom as we review all the requests that come in. Every Bible is prayed over by our staff and a special label is placed in the front of the Bible with the first name of the donor who sponsored that Bible, making the gift even more personal. Those who are receiving Bibles know that this is not just an anonymous gift from some organization thousands of miles away, but a faith believing, giving, loving person, who thought enough about those they will never see on Earth to contribute to bring the Word of God into their life.
For just $5.00 you can be part of changing a life and bringing the Word of God to someone who has never owned a Bible, but desperately has requested one and waits for our response. But I hope you'll want to send more than one, perhaps five, or ten, or a whole case of 36 Bibles impacting 36 lives for Jesus Christ!
While at the Garden Tomb, today, an older lady came up to us, saying she lived on the coast of Israel near Tel Aviv. She's been watching METV and somehow figured out our tour schedule. She specifically brought an offering of 200 Israeli Shekels for Spread the Word Bibles! This is about $50. She told us that her husband who was not a Christian would forbid her from watching METV, so she would watch late at night when he was asleep and if he caught her, he would make her shut off the television. How amazing for her to bring an offering specifically to send Bibles.
Can we meet the need of another 500,000 people this year? We can with your help. With each one of us working together, we can indeed continue to reach out to those who are the lost, the last, and the least. Thank you for your prayer, your support, and your love for the lost.
